This Purim – a night of topsy-turvy in a world already turned upside down – we accept the impossibility of one right choice in our strive for justice. Despite our follies and failures, Mordechai’s feverish call to Esther still rings true, that we “were created for a moment such as this” (4:14).
How does this ancient call to action inspire us to continue scribing a more just, peaceful future? Lab/Shul invites you to step into the Purim story through a night of music and cabaret, to wrestle with the binaries of this ancient tale, and reveal our truest, most authentic selves in a celebration of song and performance. Supported by a phenomenal house band of radical ritualists, we journey with the Megillah’s characters through their original performance pieces to rise to meet this moment.
Following the performance, we’ll transition into MESSTHER, hosted by NY’s queer Jewish party FLAMINGGG to celebrate a reimagined future. DJ’s Party Girl, Chaia of Kleztronica & Cher Muta (aka Jonathan Moshe Cohen) will spin mystical madness on the dance floor, super-soaking you with Adar-licious joy until dawn.
More performance happenings TBA.
