Dear Lab/Shul,

We welcome the Sabbath Queen tonight…She says, “Bring ALL of you.” In a Purim season when we’re commanded to express joy all month long, let’s be real. Our joy not only coexists with – but depends on – our expression of sorrow, our grief and our rage all together. We can do this especially on Shabbat, as our teacher Rabbi Dr. Jay Michaelson writes “On Purim, that which seems to be dual — inside/outside, concealed/revealed — is understood to be One.” Shabbat can hold that. And you are in for an evocative and heartfelt sermon tonight – prepared by our beloved Rabbi Amichai – which will be thematically tied to today’s article in The Forward.
Come, your spirit will thank you!

One more thing. Got a kiddo aged 2-7? Have you ever tried to tell them a God-optional, Artist-Driven, Experimental version of the Purim story? “FamilyLab” our programming for all of you with young children, is back. With Lab/Shul’s unique approach to tradition, text and story, FamilyLab is open to those who identify as Jewish, Jew-ish, and everything in between. Join us on March 17 for the costume parade, stay for the ecstatic release of resistance. This will be a colorful afternoon of masquerade, storytelling, AND yummy hamantaschen cookie making. We are honored to bring special guest educator Emet (Ari L. Monts) to you and your children. Space is limited so register and invite your friends today!

Register for 3/17 Family Lab

I will leave you with this musical inspiration until tonight…

With love,
