Art is our heart.

As a community of art creators and art appreciators, we explore spiritual transformation through artistic experience and artistic imagination through spiritual experience. We value risk-taking and creative exploration as a modality for an informed and inclusive spiritual community.

We infuse the creative spirit into everything: from an all-star lineup of musicians in our band, to the team of poets who craft our original translations of Hebrew prayers, to the designers and illustrators who have a hand in…well, pretty much everything. Because art is so foundational and fundamental to our spiritual lives, we became the first shul in the country to have a full-time artistic director on staff.

Storahtelling

We started as a theater company, pioneering multi-generational theatrical productions woven into the public ritual reading of Torah. We continue this exploration of sacred stories with artists of every discipline at Saturday Soulspa and High Holy Days.

Guest Artists

Our monthly Sabbath gatherings open intentional, loving, supportive, sacred space for guest musicians, poets, and visual artists to share their art and heart.

Lab/Jr.

Our dynamic teaching artists and Lab/Jr. Artist-in-Residence craft creative experiential learning for kids of all ages through imaginative play, movement, music, and more.

Design

Aesthetics matter. We believe good design is a pathway to deeper connection, so we work with world-class designers from around the world on everything from event banners to our at-home products. Gallery coming soon!

PPPPPPurim

Our annual renegade ritual performance festival taking on the Book of Esther, featuring a curated night of original acts imagining a world post-patriarchy.

Artist in Residence

We collaborate with an artist each year to create an annual visual language that feeds and flows throughout our programming, providing the artist with a rich and diverse landscape for creative exploration.

“This is really one of the most special things that I’ve had a chance to work on. Lab/Shul is creating a pathway into Judaism that is both new and deep, and it’s set a high bar.
– David Tzvi Kalman / Designer
