Hey Lab/Shul,
What does opening your windows have to do with our responsibility to get out the vote and protect our democracy?
I’ll recap for you the short teaching I gave at our second Together Tuesdays meeting to #GOTV – I hope you join us next week to learn, share, commit to more and get a hug for what you are already doing. It’s one hour that will give you the fuel needed to breathe better for four more years.
When it comes to prayer, one must only do it in a room with windows open to the world – so teach the sages in the Talmudic tractate that discusses blessings.
Why windows? Because praying, like voting, is not a solitary action, although it is intensely private. We connect to our higher source, take the time to voice our values, with eyes wide open to the needs and the realities of the world.
While many are busy praying hard for favorable outcome in November, getting out there – making sure folks vote, polls operate, and marginalized voters get the support they need – is critical this year. Open your windows, get out from under the blanket and STEP IT UP. It’s on us.
Scroll down for what you can still do this week, and info for the next Together Tuesday (we’ll discuss volunteering on Election Day!)
As we look to Election Day, please make sure that you have a plan to vote if you are eligible to do so. Scroll down for NYC election resources, sent by Lab/Shul Partner Sue Ellen Dodell.
Please don’t hesitate to send us ideas, suggestions (remember, we gotta keep it non-partisan) and keep doing what you can to engage, fund, and GOTV. If you need some soul-fuel swing by Sabbath Queen tonight, for hope, songs, and community.
Aleinu,
Rabbi Amichai and Sam Hipschman
