Last month, Rabbi Amichai, along with other Rabbis for Human Rights, sent the important message that “life matters more than land” as they physically stood in solidarity with Palestinian Olive Farmers on the ground in the West Bank.
The olive harvest is a generations-long tradition that provides steady income and stability for thousands of Palestinian families. This year, like far too many before it, the harvest is happening in dire conditions and amidst attacks against Palestinians attempting to harvest olives, leaving farmers unable to access their trees. This Hanukkah we have a chance to reflect on the role of oil in the Hanukkah Story and as we engage our communities in solidarity with Palestinian olive farmers.
Lab/Shul is supporting Palestinian olive farmers by raising awareness and offering a ritual station to taste olive oil and by reciting a blessing at our various Hanukkah gatherings this year. We also would like to invite our community to purchase olive oil directly from a community in the west bank and to share in our ritual or create rituals of your own. Please fill out this form for more information and click here to purchase a bottle of your own.
