This past week, like many, my heart has been heavy — thinking of the mothers weeping for their children in Israel and Gaza and elsewhere around the world. As a mother, I carry a piece of them all in my heart — every grieving, aching, and praying mother around the world.
Through my work with Lab/Shul, I’ve re-learned how vital ritual is — not just as tradition, but as a living, breathing practice. Just this week on Long Island, I joined a women’s circle to honor hope and healing in the month of Iyar — a time of physical and spiritual renewal, inner refinement, and growth. During the candle lighting, I was invited to call in my matriarchal line — the women who raised me, shaped me, continue to hold me — and reflect on the sacred responsibility I now carry for my own daughter. My personal path to motherhood was long, tender, and deeply humbling. Each day, through the truth of what my body holds and the stories of those that surround me, I’m reminded that there are infinite ways to step into — and live out — the profound work of mothering.
As Mother’s Day approaches, we pause to honor the full spectrum of mothering — from the divine feminine that surrounds and sustains us, to the joyful celebrations of parenthood, and the often quiet, tender paths of loss, longing, and becoming. At Lab/Shul, we hold space for it all. With love and reverence, we offer these gifts to help support and uplift:
You — our beloved community — continue to show up for Lab/Shul, for one another, and for the experience we’re co-creating. Last week’s Sabbath Queen gathering was a radiant reminder that at the heart of it all is love, ritual, and the power of connection. And if you missed it:
