In 5786, we rise again, guided by our people’s age-old resilience, ready to restart the annual journey of reflection and return to our best selves, to show up and to repair. Much more than a familiar quote or cliche – Tikkun or Tikkun Olam does not just mean that it’s on us to fix the world – it’s a more complex and nuanced concept that has evolved along with us over millennia, challenging us to course correct with courage and compassion, towards the transformations that will nurture trust and hope, bring peace and justice – for generations.

ReCollect/Yizkor is a seasonal gathering to remember our loved ones, share stories, lift memory, and say Kaddish, the ancient memorial prayer, together. Whether experiencing a recent loss, remembering a loved one who passed away long ago, or showing up in support of community, we gather to acknowledge feelings of loss that can be particularly painful as we anticipate an empty chair at our tables.

A Simchat Torah Gathering

Join the @labshul and @kane_street communities, all ages, to wrap up the High Holy Days with sacred gathering that weaves Sukkot and Simchat Torah with a circle ritual of healing, hope and peace.
The festive holiday of Simchat Torah is now forever marked with the tragedy of October 7th and the unimaginable death and destruction of these past years. On this day we’ll gather to gain strength from our ancestral wisdom and from each other as we unscroll the Torah to begin our sacred story again, with new intentions, celebrating life, choosing peace for all.
This ancient-renewed ritual will be led by Rabbi @amichailaulavie, @naomiless1, Rabbi Beni Summers and additional guest ritualists and musicians.
Special activities for Children’s Program led by educator @kladysteve.
All ages, all faiths. Open, free and accessible to all.

By remembering the core teachings of this holiday: Sukkot teaches us to dwell in impermanence and to find joy in the ways we show up with and for each other, inside fragile shelters that we build for hospitality, and fill with presence. The sukkah, open to the elements, reminds us how exposed we are, and yet how capable we are of creating sacred space, even amid uncertainty, mixing grief and joy, finding shelter in each other’s kindness, co-creating shared opportunities for growth and for peace.

We returned to repair, in the sanctuary and on the streets: As we emerge from the sacred stillness and soul-searching of Yom Kippur, with sorrow for the terror attack that claimed the lives of fellow Jews while at prayer on this holy day in Manchester, we thank 1000+ of you for joining us in NYC and online, including elected officials Brad Lander, Jerry Nadler, Jumanne Williams, and Zohran Mamdani, alongside faith leaders and activists who came to pray with us for justice and peace.
We welcomed these guests warmly as welcome all who come to pray with us, and this decision was made with care in alignment with Lab/Shul’s values of welcome, communal care, and spiritual integrity, and in the spirit of love.
