SUMMARY:PURIMMESSTHER
DESCRIPTION:PURIMMESSTHER\nSaturday\, March 23rd\nBrooklyn\n10:30pm – Performance\n11:45pm – Party hosted by FLAMINGGG\nThis Purim – a night of topsy-turvy in a world already turned upside down – we accept the impossibility of one right choice in our strive for justice. Despite our follies and failures\, Mordechai’s feverish call to Esther still rings true\, that we “were created for a moment such as this” (4:14). How does this ancient call to action inspire us to continue scribing a more just\, peaceful future? Lab/Shul invites you to step into the Purim story through a night of music and cabaret\, to wrestle with the binaries of this ancient tale\, and reveal our truest\, most authentic selves in a celebration of song and performance. Supported by a phenomenal house band of radical ritualists\, we journey with the Megillah’s characters through their original performance pieces to rise to meet this moment. \nFollowing the performance\, we’ll transition into MESSTHER\, hosted by NY’s queer Jewish party FLAMINGGG to celebrate a reimagined future. DJ’s Party Girl\, Chaia of Kleztronica & Cher Muta (aka Jonathan Moshe Cohen) will spin mystical madness on the dance floor\, super-soaking you with Adar-licious joy until dawn.\nMore performance happenings TBA. \nReserve your spot >\nProceeds from PURIMESSTHER ticket sales will be donated in support of Sulha Peace Project\, which was founded over 20 years ago with the goal of creating eye-to-eye\, heart-to-heart encounters between Palestinians and Israelis.

SUMMARY:Death Over Dinner: Jewish Edition
DESCRIPTION:Death Over Dinner: Jewish Edition\nMonday\, February 12th\n6:30 – 8:30pm\nBrooklyn\nThroughout the past several years\, grief and loss have been an inextricable part of our collective lives. Death Over Dinner: Jewish Edition is an invitation to address the basic human fact that we are all\, at some point\, going to die\, and to do it over the table\, a place where we can break bread and create connections. \nThis event will include an opportunity to discuss essential questions\, and consider how to live well in the face of mortality. Over a delicious dinner (because we should also enjoy!)\, we will have an exploration of accessible Jewish texts to prompt questions and discussions about quality of life\, decision making\, and communicating wishes with loved ones. \nWe will be led by Rabbi Melanie Levav\, from our partner Shomer Collective\, and Naomi Less of Lab/Shul. They believe that talking about death not only better prepares us to approach life’s most challenging moments\, but also helps us articulate and affirm who we are and what we ultimately care about. Created by rabbis\, theologians\, wellness\, and palliative care experts\, Death Over Dinner: Jewish Edition provides a unique lens through which to build and strengthen our personal beliefs about life and death. \nJoin The Neighborhood\, Shomer Collective\, and Lab/Shul for a gathering in a brave\, healing space to talk about how we choose to live our lives\, recognizing that they are finite. We will have vegetarian food and mock-tails\, hosted at a progressive\, LGBTQ-affirming dinner church in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn\, New York\, who are working to dispel isolation\, reconnect neighbors\, and subvert the status quo. \nThis is designed to be an adult-level intellectual and emotional conversation. \nRegister here >
