DESCRIPTION:Rally  & Press Conference: Jewish New Yorkers for Bail Reform\nWe’re joining Bend the Arc\, Avodah\, Kolot Chayeinu\, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah\, and Jews for Racial and Economic Justice to speak out in support of bail reform. \n  \nWe will also fight to defend these critical changes against fear-mongering by police\, prosecutors and regressive politicians who seek to weaponize antisemitism. We know that money bail and pretrial detention neither combat antisemitism nor keep our communities safe. Pretrial jailing – which can cause people to lose their jobs\, housing and healthcare — destabilizes families and communities\, exacerbating root causes of harm and violence. Pretrial detention also exacerbates mental health crisis\, while doing nothing to support treatment\, accountability\, or transformation. \n  \nThe Torah and the Talmud teach that we must be committed to rooting out injustice in all its forms. True community safety requires affordable housing\, economic and educational opportunities\, access to quality healthcare and mental health services\, not money bail or pretrial jailing. \nAll are welcome. \nLearn more about New York City’s jail crisis and the #FreeNewYork movement.
