Throughout the year\, ReCollect meets near or on the times of memory (Yizkor) on the Jewish calendar (Yom Kippur\, Sukkot\, Passover and in this month Shavuot). \nWhether you’ve experienced a recent loss\, are remembering a loved one who passed long ago\, or showing up in support of community\, you are welcome here. In this session\, we’ll spend time both in a large group and small breakout groups investigating: what is the Torah — the sacred story — of our lives? How does this Torah grow and change with us as we age? \nWe’ll be together from 6-8pm EST\, and from 8-8:30pm EST we’ll host a final info session for any prospective participants that have not yet submitted their application to join GENerate or still have outstanding questions about the program. DESCRIPTION:Put it on Paper: Grief Writing Workshop\nWednesday\, August 14\n7:30 – 9:00pm ET\nOnline\n  \nWitnessing your grief through writing is a powerful tool for healing. Hear how grief writing helped two grievers as they navigated Jewish mourning rituals\, and explore writing prompts to help you tell your own grief story. This experiential writing workshop will include the opportunity to share in optional small-group breakout sessions. \nThis is part of a 2-part writing workshop series with Shomer Collective. Put it on Paper focuses on both the external and internal experiences of mortality; grief writing (this program) is a space to engage with the deaths of others whom we have known and loved\, while ethical wills prompt us to consider our own legacies. All are welcome to either or both sessions. \nThis session and series will be recorded. This offering is a partnership between Lab/Shul and Shomer Collective. \nPlease note that this session is not a substitute for grief therapy or mental health support. If you need referrals please reach out to hello@shomercollective.org. \nPresenters: \nJennifer Bleyer\, LMSW\, is a psychotherapist at Erika Malm Collective and Brooklyn Counseling Services. She was formerly an editor and journalist for nearly 20 years\, including work as a senior editor at Psychology Today\, City section reporter for The New York Times\, and adjunct faculty at the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. \nChloe Nassau\, MSW\, previously was a consultant with Shomer Collective researching grief and mourning in Jewish life. Previously\, she served as the Senior Regional Director for Honeymoon Israel. She also served as the Director of Youth Programs at the 14th Street Y in Manhattan. She earned her MSW at Hunter College School of Social Work and has a BA in International Relations from Boston University. Chloe is passionate about transforming communities.
