This event is a hallmark of the Brooklyn Jewish calendar\, and we’re excited to host it again this year. \nSpecial Programs Led by Lab/Shul Spiritual + Ritual Leaders: \n6/11 @ 11 PM – with Naomi Less: ”\nRegendered Torah: An Interactive Exploration”\nJoin Yael Kanarek\, Toratah’s founder\, and Naomi Less\, the artistic producer of the groundbreaking new album\, Songs of Toratah: ZimraTah as we dive into an interactive exploration learning about Toratah\, the regendered Torah. The Songs of Toratah features stylistically diverse compositions by international singer-songwriters who composed singable melodies from verses of Toratah. Through their words and music\, they contributed to the creation of a new cultural language. This session will feature live music and engaging study + surprise guest singers and musicians. \n6/11 @ 11 PM – with Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie and Rabbi Rachel Timoner:\n“All You Need is Vav: how a broken letter in the Torah can help us repair ruptures and build Both/And Attitudes”\nIn these times of extreme polarization and division\, in particular when our world seems split between those who are pro-Israel and those who are pro-Palestine\, why and how might we foster a Both/And attitude within ourselves and our spheres of influence? Can we derive such an attitude from Jewish tradition? The Jewish History and Ethical Dilemmas of Hostage Redemption\, and the Surprising Origin of Tikkun Olam”\nNine months later\, the fate of so many hostages remains unknown. The question of how to bring them home is incredibly divisive due to political\, theological\, and ideological concerns. It turns out we’re not the first generation to grapple with such tragic moral dilemmas. The debates between the imperative to save every single human life and the obligation to communal survival are recorded throughout Jewish history and surprisingly birthed the aspirational term tikkun olam\, to repair the world. Throughout the year\, ReCollect meets near or on the times of memory (Yizkor) on the Jewish calendar (Yom Kippur\, Sukkot\, Passover and in this month Shavuot). \nWhether you’ve experienced a recent loss\, are remembering a loved one who passed long ago\, or showing up in support of community\, you are welcome here. DESCRIPTION:GENERATE KICKOFF STUDY SESSION\nThursday\, June 13th from 6:00-8:00pm EDT\nOptional info session from 8:00-8:30pm EDT\nOnline\n\nJoin Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie\, Founder and Senior Clergy; Ben Freeman\, Associate Clergy and Program Director of GENerate; and Sam Hipschman\, Director of Community and Culture for a special study session kicking off the fourth cohort of GENerate. \nGENerate is our yearlong rite of passage program for adults 60ish and above exploring ways of aging wisely\, generatively\, and soulfully together. In this session\, we’ll spend time both in a large group and small breakout groups investigating: what is the Torah — the sacred story — of our lives? How does this Torah grow and change with us as we age? \nWe’ll be together from 6-8pm EST\, and from 8-8:30pm EST we’ll host a final info session for any prospective participants that have not yet submitted their application to join GENerate or still have outstanding questions about the program.
