SUMMARY:Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day Ceremony\nThe 15th annual Joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Ceremony is co-organized by Combatants for Peace and Parents Circle – Families Forum and held on Yom Hazikaron (Israeli Memorial Day). The Ceremony challenges the traditional narrative of victimhood and separation\, and brings people together to declare that\, “War is Not an Act of Fate – but a Human Choice!” \nYom Hazikaron\, Israeli Memorial Day\, is a sacred day in Israel. Nearly every Israeli family has lost someone in the conflict\, and together they come to remember these dear ones. However\, traditionally\, Israelis ignore the grief of Palestinian families. Indeed the official Israeli ceremonies are marked by a narrative of hopelessness\, accepting that “we must live or die by our swords.” This leads to deep pain\, fueling the despair prevalent in both societies today. \nWhen Palestinians and Israelis challenge the status quo and come together to acknowledge each other and remember – together\, we start to build a new reality based on mutual respect\, dignity\, equality\, freedom and peace.  In this way\, we are taking responsibility\, challenging our own sense of victimhood\, and better still\, turning a sense of helplessness into empowerment and hope. \nThe Joint Memorial stands as a unique symbol of humanity and persistence. \nWhat began as a small ceremony of 50 people in 2005\, is now the second largest Memorial Day Event held in Israel\, with 10\,000 people attending the live event in Tel Aviv last year. This year\, we will create our largest Ceremony yet. Due to the worldwide Corona quarantine\, the Ceremony will take place without a physically present audience\, but instead will be broadcast live.  It will include special guest speakers and musical performances by Israeli and Palestinian artists.  At the close of the Ceremony we will post links to bereaved families\, Israelis and Palestinians\, who will open their homes for viewers to visit\, discuss or simply share sentiments.

DESCRIPTION:Queer Liberation March for Black Lives & Against Police Brutality\nJoin us and our siblings at the Reclaim Pride Coalition\, to take to the streets of Manhattan for the second annual Queer Liberation March — the Queer Liberation March for Black Lives and Against Police Brutality. Marchers will gather at 12:45pm at Foley Square on Centre St and step off at 1pm sharp. \nLab/Shul will be gathering at 26 Federal Plaza at 12:30pm. You can find us easily because we’ll be holding up our Queer Saints banners! \nReclaim Pride joins with abolitionists such as Mariambe Kaba and others in several cities in demanding a fifty percent reduction in the NYPD budget with a fifty percent reduction in the police force. Those funds must be dedicated to support and services including housing\, healthcare\, education and reparative and restorative justice for Black communities. New York City must prioritize reparations for those who’ve been oppressed and murdered for hundreds of years. \nWhile all Black people are at constant risk of police brutality and murder\, Reclaim Pride\, as queer and trans activists \, recognizes that Black Trans\, Gender Non-Conforming\, and Non Binary people\, especially Black Trans Women\, are faced with the intersection of vicious state and societal racism\, transphobia\, misogyny\, and classism. This must stop now.\n \nKeep Yourself and Others Safe\nMarchers are asked to wear face masks to protect against COVID-19 and to maintain safe distancing. Reclaim Pride can provide a limited number of masks\, hand sanitizer and water to those who need them. And Reclaim Pride will livestream the March online at @queermarch on FB and Twitter/Periscope and via Youtube live on reclaimpridenyc.org for those who can’t attend in person. This March\, like all current protest Marches\, does not have a City/NYPD permit.

Join Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie and Lab/Shul Partner Holly Pretsky\, in conversation with Jeff Cotlin of City and State and Olivia Lapeyrolerie of SKDK\, as they explore changes to this year’s elections\, ranked choice voting\, and making an educated choice as a voter. \n  \n \n  \nHolly Pretsky is a Lab/shul partner and deputy managing editor at City & State NY. Originally from Colorado\, she’s reported from Colorado Springs\, Miami\, Washington D.C. and Martha’s Vineyard and now lives in Sunset Park\, Brooklyn. \n  \n  \n \n  \nOlivia Lapeyrolerie is a seasoned media strategist with experience in government relations\, campaigns and crisis communications.Prior to joining SKDK as a Vice President\, Olivia served as Mayor de Blasio’s First Deputy Press Secretary where she developed and implemented communications strategies for major policy and personnel announcements. Olivia received her Master’s Degree in Modern History from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. She is a published author and poet based in Brooklyn. \n  \n \n  \nJeff Coltin is a senior reporter at City & State NY\, who writes stories and develops other content for the magazine\, with a particular focus on New York City. He’s also writes the popular Campaign Confidential newsletter\, focusing on the 2021 elections. Jeff previously worked at NY1 and at Bronx-based public radio station WFUV. Jeff graduated in 2015 from Fordham University\, where he studied political science\, theology and Italian food. Born and raised in Phoenix\, Jeff now lives on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. \n
