DESCRIPTION:Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\nApril 29\, 2025\n8:30pm Jerusalem / 1:30pm EST\nONLINE\nAbout the Ceremony \nThe Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\, organized by Combatants for Peace and The Parents Circle Families Forum\, is one of the largest Israeli-Palestinian jointly organized peace events in history. The Joint Memorial Ceremony provides a unique opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians to grieve together and stand strong in demanding an end to the occupation and ongoing violence. The ceremony occurs yearly on the eve of Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day). In Israeli mainstream culture\, the ceremonies that are most often held to honor this day serve to reinforce cultural narratives of pain\, victimhood\, and hopelessness. The Joint Memorial transforms this narrative by bringing Palestinians to the Memorial alongside Israelis to mourn side by side and model another way forward. \nOn April 29\, 2025\, we will gather for the Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\, in a powerful act of defiance against the forces that seek to divide us. Now in its 20th year\, the Joint Memorial is a beacon of hope in the darkness. Since the murder of his parents in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7\, 2023\, Inon has become a leading voice for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.  In recognition of his peacebuilding efforts\, Maoz was honored in 2024 with two prestigious awards: the Franco-German Human Rights Prize\, awarded by France and Germany\, and the Shared Living Award from Abraham Initiatives. \n\nAziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian author\, peacemaker and entrepreneur with a background in conflict resolution and tourism development. To date\, he has implemented transformative education and peace initiatives across more than 65 countries\, including Afghanistan\, Syria\, Israel and Palestine. His journey from seeking revenge for his brother’s death at the hands of Israeli soldiers to becoming a peacemaker underscores a decades-long mission to foster cross-cultural understanding. The cofounder of InterAct International and MEJDI Tours and former executive director at the Center for World Religions\, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University\, Abu Sarah has pioneered innovative approaches to tourism and education that promote empathy\, sustainability and bridge-building between communities. Aziz has been recognized among the “500 Most Influential Muslims in the World” by the Royal Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan annually since 2010 for his impactful work in cultural education and conflict resolution. He is a TED Fellow and National Geographic Explorer.

DESCRIPTION:Inaugural NYC Nakba Remembrance Ceremony Satellite\nFriday\, May 15\, 2026\n3:30pm EST Live Broadcast\n(Immediately preceding Sabbath Queen)\nNYC\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrior to Sabbath Queen\, we invite you to join us and Lab/Shul Partner and event co-organizer\, Gili Getz\, to watch the ceremony together at Judson Memorial Church.  \nThe Joint Nakba Remembrance Ceremony is a unique opportunity to commemorate the pain and tragedy of the Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic)\, when in 1948 more than 700\,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from their homes\, became refugees\, and had their villages and cities destroyed. In Israel\, even mentioning the Nakba is completely taboo\, however\, Combatants for Peace believes that peace and reconciliation involve a sincere and honest reckoning with this history that didn’t end in 1948 but continues until this day. \nThis year’s theme is “Sumud in Humanity”. Sumud—meaning resilience—is often understood as steadfastness\, unbreakability\, and a deep connection to land. Yet we believe Sumud is not the absence of pain; it is the conscious choice to remain human\, especially when circumstances make it easier to dehumanize others. It is the courage to continue believing in justice and shared resistance when despair feels more rational. It means safeguarding our core humanity—dignity\, compassion\, and moral clarity—even when both history and present realities put it to the test. \nThis ceremony is rooted in the core belief of Combatants for Peace: that genuinely understanding the lived experiences and historical narratives of both societies is essential to breaking the cycle of violence and building a different future. It reflects a commitment to justice\, acknowledgment\, and accountability\, and affirms that true peace can only emerge when all people are free and the humanity of every individual is upheld without exception. \nGuests will also be invited to continue the conversation at Lab/Shul’s Shabbat ritual: Sabbath Queen. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here >
