Earlier this year they traveled together to Verona\, Italy to meet Pope Francis and share their vision for the future: one where Israelis and Palestinians can move forward and live side by side. \n\nAziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian peacebuilder\, entrepreneur\, and international speaker. He is the co-founder of InterAct International and MEJDI Tours\, and the former executive director of the Center for World Religions\, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University.\nMaoz Inon is an Israeli social entrepreneur and peace activist. DESCRIPTION:Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\nApril 29\, 2025\n8:30pm Jerusalem / 1:30pm EST\nONLINE\nAbout the Ceremony \nThe Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\, organized by Combatants for Peace and The Parents Circle Families Forum\, is one of the largest Israeli-Palestinian jointly organized peace events in history. The Joint Memorial Ceremony provides a unique opportunity for Israelis and Palestinians to grieve together and stand strong in demanding an end to the occupation and ongoing violence. The ceremony occurs yearly on the eve of Yom HaZikaron (Israeli Memorial Day). In Israeli mainstream culture\, the ceremonies that are most often held to honor this day serve to reinforce cultural narratives of pain\, victimhood\, and hopelessness. The Joint Memorial transforms this narrative by bringing Palestinians to the Memorial alongside Israelis to mourn side by side and model another way forward. \nOn April 29\, 2025\, we will gather for the Israeli-Palestinian Joint Memorial Day Ceremony\, in a powerful act of defiance against the forces that seek to divide us. Now in its 20th year\, the Joint Memorial is a beacon of hope in the darkness. Since the murder of his parents in the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7\, 2023\, Inon has become a leading voice for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.  In recognition of his peacebuilding efforts\, Maoz was honored in 2024 with two prestigious awards: the Franco-German Human Rights Prize\, awarded by France and Germany\, and the Shared Living Award from Abraham Initiatives. \n\nAziz Abu Sarah is a Palestinian author\, peacemaker and entrepreneur with a background in conflict resolution and tourism development. To date\, he has implemented transformative education and peace initiatives across more than 65 countries\, including Afghanistan\, Syria\, Israel and Palestine. His journey from seeking revenge for his brother’s death at the hands of Israeli soldiers to becoming a peacemaker underscores a decades-long mission to foster cross-cultural understanding. The cofounder of InterAct International and MEJDI Tours and former executive director at the Center for World Religions\, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University\, Abu Sarah has pioneered innovative approaches to tourism and education that promote empathy\, sustainability and bridge-building between communities. Aziz has been recognized among the “500 Most Influential Muslims in the World” by the Royal Strategic Studies Centre in Jordan annually since 2010 for his impactful work in cultural education and conflict resolution. He is a TED Fellow and National Geographic Explorer.

Inspired by the Four Children of the Passover Haggadah—each representing a distinct archetype and response to life\, and by the four questions of the Seder—we will gather as a community on this sacred night of atonement on which we don’t eat but do get to ask big questions about liberation and identity: \n\nWhat does it mean to be Jewish today?\nWhere do our loyalties lie?\nHow do we hold both hurt and hope\, shame and pride?\n\nThrough an interactive panel with Lab/Shul’s ritual team and special guests\, combined with opportunities for personal reflection and shared response\, we’ll confront the hardest questions of belonging and belief in this moment\, and open our hearts to the responsible possibilities of renewal and repair. \n*This program will be held following the Kol Nidrei ritual and is open to all who are joining us on this night\, in person or online.  \n\nREGISTRATION >> included with High Holy Days Registration\n
