SUMMARY:31st Annual Downtown Seder at City Winery
DESCRIPTION:31st Annual Downtown Seder at City Winery\nWednesday\, April 17th\n7 PM\nSpecial guests include Laurie Anderson\, Steven Bernstein\, David Broza\, Peter Yarrow\, AC Lincoln\, Richard Kind\, Judy Gold\, Alex Edelman\, Amichai Lau-Lavie\, Dr\, Benjamin Chavis\, Jr. and Terrance Floyd (George’s Brother)\, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander\, and Dr. Ruth and many more. \nRegister here >\nSince 1991\, City Winery founder Michael Dorf has produced this celebrity-driven interpretation of this ancient wine dinner party. This unique take on a divine tradition will open your mind and your senses. Happening Wednesday\, April 17 at 7PM\, with a very special lineup given the world today. \nThis annual tradition goes back thousands of years\, but our interpretive Seder transcends Judaism and takes the themes within the Passover story of tyrants and governments harboring lethal hatred for outsiders and immigrants\, the liberation struggles\, the histories of oppression\, bigotry\, anti-Semitism\, even pandemics and plagues represented in the timeless Passover story–and makes it relevant for our time. We need to remember our past and celebrate our freedom with this fun event that allows people to break bread (matzah)\, drink wine\, and laugh\, sing\, and contemplate the issues of our world. \nOur Seder’s have had many artists\, actors\, comedians\, political figures from Perry Farrell to Jerry Stiller\, from Dr. Ruth to Congressman Jerry Nadler\, from Al Franken singing “Go Down Moses” to Lou Reed reading Marley’s Exodus. Activist Ruth Messinger speaking about Darfur’s genocide to comedian Judy Gold’s annual rendition of Dayyenu. “Half postmodern religious ritual and half cabaret” -Jewish Learning Magazine; “More dreadlocks than yarmulkes\, with Lou Reed as the “bad child”\, Phillip Glass and more\, it felt like a cross between summer camp in the Catskills and a progressive jazz concert\,” -The New York Times\, April 27\, 1997 (That’s right\, been doing it a long time!) “The hippest Seder on Earth\, more deconstructionist than Reconscructionist” -The Forward \nPlant-based multi-course meal and at least 4 glass of vino included.

SUMMARY:ReCollect Seasonal Kaddish Gathering
DESCRIPTION:ReCollect Seasonal Kaddish Gathering\nMonday\, April 29th\nA Seasonal Kaddish Gathering\nHosted by Lab/Shul’s Kaddish Club\nIn NYC (full) + Online\n\nAs we head into spring mode – and Passover\, another significant time of year without our loved ones\, we align with Nisan/April\, a time of moving from narrowness and constriction into the wider breath of spring. \nWhether experiencing a recent loss\, remembering a loved one who passed away long ago\, or showing up in support of community\, we gather to acknowledge feelings of loss that can be particularly painful as we anticipate an empty chair at our tables and holes in our hearts. \nLab/Shul’s ReCollect/Yizkor is a seasonal gathering to remember our loved ones\, share stories\, lift memory\, and say Kaddish\, the ancient memorial prayer\, together. Throughout the year\, ReCollect meets near or on the times of memory (Yizkor) on the Jewish calendar (Yom Kippur\, Sukkot\, Passover and Shavuot). \nIn person registration is full.\nRegister to join online >
