SUMMARY:Judaism: Born Divided? / Below the Bible Belt 2
DESCRIPTION: Judaism: Born Divided? Below the Bible Belt 2\nTwelve Tribes of Israel – Fact or Fiction??\nSunday April 19\nLIVE | ONLINE\n\nWhen Did “Israel” Begin? The twelve tribes of Israel  —fact of fiction\, solid history or made-up myth? \nIt’s a fascinating mystery that deeply matters to who and what the people of Israel are really all about – today\, worldwide.\nOur fourth monthly session of Judaism:  Born Divided traces tribal truths\, well guarded secrets and surprising stories about siblings that never existed\, family ties that forged not one but two kingdoms\, brutal battles that tore them apart\, and the power of political stories that solidify claims to power despite disputes and different narratives. Tracing the twelve tribes reveals how Judean editors rewrote history—and how recovering suppressed northern models might expand our imagination for pluralistic Jewish peoplehood today. \nJoin for a close reading of biblical texts in conversation with archeology and critical history\, including Finkelstein’s The Forgotten Kingdom\, Avrum Burg’s “Israel Should Triumph Over Judah\,” and Shira Golani’s ‘The Two Blessings of the Twelve Tribes’. \nRead this prior to LIVE program \n\n***Lab/Shul Partners receive 50% off monthly/annual subscriptions***\nPartners click here to subscribe > \nBelow the Bible Belt Part 2 is an online Study Course with Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie. How the origin story of our forgotten feud can help direct us from discord and schism to diversity and pluralism. (January–December 2026) | More Info  \n

SUMMARY:ReCollect/Yizkor
DESCRIPTION:ReCollect/Yizkor: Passover\nThursday\, April 9th\n12pm ET\nOnline\n\n\nSpring brings a season of memory – collective memory in the Passover story where the Jewish people left Egypt\, but there was much loss along the way. Passover is the second of three ancient pilgrimage holidays when collective community gathers to remember (Yizkor). We will gather at the end of Passover to reflect on the holiday and connect to our memories. \n*NOTE: this will take the place of Virtual Kaddish that week. \nLab/Shul’s ReCollect/Yizkor is a seasonal gathering to remember our loved ones\, share stories\, lift memory\, and say Kaddish\, the ancient memorial prayer\, together. Throughout the year\, ReCollect meets near or on the times of memory (Yizkor) on the Jewish calendar (Yom Kippur\, Sukkot\, Passover and Shavuot). \nWhether you’ve experienced a recent loss\, are remembering a loved one who passed long ago\, or showing up in support of community\, you are welcome here. Together\, we acknowledge feelings of loss that can be particularly painful as we anticipate empty chairs at our tables and holes in our hearts. \n\nRegister here >

This unique take on a divine tradition will open your mind and your senses. Happening Wednesday\, April 17 at 7PM\, with a very special lineup given the world today. \nThis annual tradition goes back thousands of years\, but our interpretive Seder transcends Judaism and takes the themes within the Passover story of tyrants and governments harboring lethal hatred for outsiders and immigrants\, the liberation struggles\, the histories of oppression\, bigotry\, anti-Semitism\, even pandemics and plagues represented in the timeless Passover story–and makes it relevant for our time. We need to remember our past and celebrate our freedom with this fun event that allows people to break bread (matzah)\, drink wine\, and laugh\, sing\, and contemplate the issues of our world. \nOur Seder’s have had many artists\, actors\, comedians\, political figures from Perry Farrell to Jerry Stiller\, from Dr. Ruth to Congressman Jerry Nadler\, from Al Franken singing “Go Down Moses” to Lou Reed reading Marley’s Exodus. Activist Ruth Messinger speaking about Darfur’s genocide to comedian Judy Gold’s annual rendition of Dayyenu. “Half postmodern religious ritual and half cabaret” -Jewish Learning Magazine; “More dreadlocks than yarmulkes\, with Lou Reed as the “bad child”\, Phillip Glass and more\, it felt like a cross between summer camp in the Catskills and a progressive jazz concert\,” -The New York Times\, April 27\, 1997 (That’s right\, been doing it a long time!) “The hippest Seder on Earth\, more deconstructionist than Reconscructionist” -The Forward \nPlant-based multi-course meal and at least 4 glass of vino included.

SUMMARY:Seder Queen 5782
DESCRIPTION:Seder Queen 5782: Moses of the City\nA Jews of Color-centered Passover Seder\, Lab/Shul style.\nWelcome to Seder Queen\, co-led by Marques Hollie and Associate Director and Ritual Leader Naomi Less with support from the Lab/Shul Ritual Team.  We are honored to premiere the Moses of the City Haggadah as our core Passover ritual tool\, created by artist in residence\, Luis Burgos along with live music\, poetry\, theater and heart-centered powerful conversations centering the perspectives of Jews of Color.  \n \nSeder Queen reflects the diversity of Judaism and lifts up the work of Jews of Color in Jewish spaces that have been historically white. We hope that other Jews of Color will experience Seder Queen as transformative\, and know that they are not alone. We hope that white Jews will be moved to do the work of liberation alongside JOCs and know that JOCs are integral to Jewish continuity and to Jewish communal spaces. \n \nBuy your own Moses in the City Haggadah directly from Luis’ website.\nThis seder is generously supported by a grant from Jews of Color Initiative\, an organization which works to build a truly multiracial\, anti-racist Jewish community in which Jews of Color can experience joy and reach their full potential and belonging as leaders and community members. Lab/Shul is also proud to partner with Ammud: Jews of Color Torah Academy\, JOC Mishpacha Project\, LUNAR\, and Mitsui Collective for this evening.  \nFeatured Ritualists   \n\nAri L. To support this commitment\, we have devised a sliding scale which aims to take into account both the inequitable distribution of wealth in our society as well as the value of the labor required to offer this program. Lab/Shul is committed to resource redistribution\, which is why we ask you to think deeply about your relationship to class in general. If this is the first time you’ve been asked to consider class and wealth\, Seder Queen is a perfect opportunity to start! \nWe encourage participants to self-select into paying the amount that best correlates to your class position.  \nHere are two resources that we’ve found helpful to understand class in the U.S (thanks Amelia Mae Paradise and Franny Silverman for assisting our learning): \n\n“About Class” // Class Action\, a cross-class group working towards Economic Justice\n“Class distinctions and class brackets” // Resource Generation an organization supporting young people in equitable wealth\, land\, and power redistribution. This resource is helpful in discovering which class category you fall into.\n\nWe invite you to consider a Sponsorship level table or ticket if you fall into Tier 3.  \nMile Chai Club: A curated\, balcony level seating experience for young adults who have greater access to wealth. Consider this if you fall into Tier 2 or higher \nPartner Discount: Partnerhood works on the simple premise that each of us gives something of ourselves in order to get a whole lot more from each other. It’s designed to help create the deeply engaged\, cross-connected community you’ve told us you want. It’s about investing. It’s about flexibility. Interested in learning more about Partnerhood? SUMMARY:Saturday SoulSpa & Yizkor
DESCRIPTION:Saturday SoulSpa & Yizkor\nJoin Naomi Less and Eliana Light as they weave a new Storahtelling\, pulling threads from an ancient story as we untangle what it means to be there for those who are grieving. SoulSpa will also include Yizkor\, a short memorial ritual\, customarily held at the end of Passover\, during which we recall with love\, deceased friends and family. \nThis is our take on the traditional afternoon Mincha prayer service “The Gift\,” and we will end by reciting the mourners kaddish prayer. \n  \nThis Month’s Collaborator\n\nEliana Light envisions a joyful\, vibrant\, heart-centered Judaism that speaks to the soul and moves the spirit\, reminding us that we all are One. She offers professional development to educators\, clergy\, and lay leaders to elevate and deepen their prayer gatherings\, allowing them to offer more meaningful experiences to more people. These days\, she creates meaningful learning\, prayer\, and professional development over zoom. \n  \nLab/Shul programming is made possible by support from you. SUMMARY:OneTable Community Seder Matching!
DESCRIPTION:Seder Matching with OneTable\nFor many of us\, this will be our second year of Zoom Passover\, and it is so critical that we\, the Lab/Shul community\, show up for one another. That’s why we’re making it easy for you to open up your Zoom table to others for the first night of Passover! \n  \nIn partnership with HereFor.com\, a program of OneTable\, we’ve made it easy for you to post and search for seders hosted by Lab/Shul Partners. \n  \nAs a bonus\, if you post your Seder and email sam@labshul.org by March 19\, we will send you items needed for your seder plate as a thank you! \nHow to Host\nIf you already have a OneTable account\, you can use the same login information for HereFor.com. Otherwise\, you’ll need to create an account. You can find step-by-step instructions for posting an event here. \n\nHow to Make Sure Lab/Shul Partners Can Find You\nThere are two important steps to make sure that other Lab/Shul Partners can identify your posting as one that’s part of Lab/Shul’s seder matching: \n\nUnder “Details\,” you’ll see “My event is for…” with a drop down list. Make sure that you click “Lab/Shul” on that drop down list!\nYou’re given an option to upload a cover image. Use this photo for your cover image so others will easily see it’s for Lab/Shul.\n\nIt’s important to know\, too\, that you can open up your table as much or as little as you want to. If you have room for one extra person at your seder\, you can set that limit on HereFor.com. If you want to host a seder just for Lab/Shul Partners and are open to as many people as possible coming\, you can also do that\, too! \n\nHow to Find a Seder\n\nGo to HereFor.com and click on “Browse Events” in the top right corner.\nTo the right of the search bar\, click on “Show Filters.”\nClick on “Areas.” You’ll see Lab/Shul on the list of options– it’s in alphabetical order\, so we’re between “Jews of Color” and “Men’s/Brotherhood.”\nClick “search” on the search bar at the top of the page. This will filter the events\, so you’ll only see events hosted by Lab/Shul Partners\, and can easily be matched with a seder.
