SUMMARY:PURIMMESSTHER
DESCRIPTION:PURIMMESSTHER\nSaturday\, March 23rd\nBrooklyn\n10:30pm – Performance\n11:45pm – Party hosted by FLAMINGGG\nThis Purim – a night of topsy-turvy in a world already turned upside down – we accept the impossibility of one right choice in our strive for justice. Despite our follies and failures\, Mordechai’s feverish call to Esther still rings true\, that we “were created for a moment such as this” (4:14). How does this ancient call to action inspire us to continue scribing a more just\, peaceful future? Lab/Shul invites you to step into the Purim story through a night of music and cabaret\, to wrestle with the binaries of this ancient tale\, and reveal our truest\, most authentic selves in a celebration of song and performance. Supported by a phenomenal house band of radical ritualists\, we journey with the Megillah’s characters through their original performance pieces to rise to meet this moment. \nFollowing the performance\, we’ll transition into MESSTHER\, hosted by NY’s queer Jewish party FLAMINGGG to celebrate a reimagined future. DJ’s Party Girl\, Chaia of Kleztronica & Cher Muta (aka Jonathan Moshe Cohen) will spin mystical madness on the dance floor\, super-soaking you with Adar-licious joy until dawn.\nMore performance happenings TBA. \nReserve your spot >\nProceeds from PURIMESSTHER ticket sales will be donated in support of Sulha Peace Project\, which was founded over 20 years ago with the goal of creating eye-to-eye\, heart-to-heart encounters between Palestinians and Israelis.

An immersive ritual for revelation to learn from our Bodies\, Torah\, and Tony Kushner. \n10:15 PM  – 2:30 AM Born Divided. Israel & Judah: Then\, Now\, Next?\nRabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie \nCan a lesser known chapter from Jewish history help repair the widening rupture in Israel and throughout the Jewish world with a model for co-existence? \nJoin Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie for 4 interactive study sessions (stand-alone or consecutive) weaving biblical scholarship\, archeology\, and politics to explore what the hidden history of the divided Jewish kingdom can teach us about our present and future realities. \nThe Kingdoms of Israel and Judah lived alongside each other for over 200 years in the Iron Age\, ruled by 45 kings & queens\, railed at by 20 prophets\, as the tribes worshiped multiple deities. A close reading of this chapter brings up a timeless and timely question: What if\, only when divided\, we survive? \nThe track will begin with an overview session in HEBREW ONLY\, followed by four sessions\, each also stand-alone\, focusing on one story from the history of the divided kingdom\, from the early divisions during the time of King David to the final destruction by Babylon. \nNo prior knowledge is necessary. \n\n
